Allan Schaap is a professional freelance photographer based in Lelystad, in the midlands of The Netherlands.
Born and raised in the then stilll apartheid era Johannesburg, Allan was influenced by various South African photographers but especially Jürgen Schadeberg of Drum magazine, who's work was and still is truly inspirational.

With more than 20 years experience in the field, studio and darkroom, Allan is a firm believer in technological development and uses only professional digital single lens reflex cameras and the finest lenses. “The days of stuffy and claustrophobic dark rooms and acrid chemical smells are over for this photographer." He constantly strives to exact the finest quality images for post editing, printing and publishing.

Fine art nude, portrait and landscape photography are his main interests and he has been inspired by celebrated photographers such as: Brandt, Weston, Hamilton, W.Eugene Smith, Karsh, Cartier Bresson and Haskins.
His approach to nude and glamour photography is simple and fundamental and portrays the female form in its natural beauty. He prefers to shoot fine art nude on location outdoors and in rural establishments, such as fields, old farmhouses and barns. The multitude of harsh textures and diffused or direct natural lighting further enhance the curves, smoothness and unblemished beauty of the female nude as he prefers it to be portrayed.

Landscape photography is also favourite subject and Allan likes to include a large proportion of sky in the picture. Often the sky will occupy one eighth to one tenth of the total image. His landscapes are instantly recognizable because of the subject matter and his unique style.

Allan has had his work published in numerous books, magazines and promotional material (local and international) and has held 2 major exhibitions; in Johannesburg, South Africa and in Lelystad, Holland.

When time permits and in-between projects, Allan will be found, ideally, wading through a gin clear stream in the mountains somewhere in Europe practicing his favourite passtime, fly-fishing. "The art of tying an imitation fly and deceiving a wily trout is a thrill that has to be experienced!
